ACADEMIC COMMUNITY STANDARD

Purpose, leadership, participation and outputs must stay visible.

Every GeNext academic community should have a defined remit, responsible conveners, appropriate membership, recurring academic activity, documented outputs and a review cycle.

MINIMUM COMMUNITY RECORD

What every active community should publish or maintain.

Community name and academic scope
Purpose / objectives
Specialty or cross-cutting category
Convener and co-convener where applicable
Faculty / advisory group
Membership eligibility
Participation / conduct rules
Confidentiality and discussion boundaries
Current academic themes
Calendar / recurring activity
Projects / programme links
Resource outputs
Contribution records
Activity / review status
LEADERSHIP

Conveners coordinate; they do not own the community.

Convener

Coordinates priorities, academic rhythm, faculty/member participation and escalation of issues outside the community remit.

Co-convener / faculty group

Supports continuity, subject expertise and review so the community does not depend on one individual.

Defined term

Leadership roles should have a stated period or review point, with continuity records when leadership changes.

ACTIVITY TYPES

Communities should produce academically useful work.

Case-based discussion
Journal club / evidence review
Research question clinic
Methods / statistics clinic
Mentor session
Teaching / masterclass
Consensus / guideline work
Workshop or course proposal
Conference session development
Resource curation
Publication / writing group
Quality-improvement discussion
DISCUSSION BOUNDARIES

Professional community does not mean uncontrolled sharing.

Communities should avoid unnecessary patient-identifiable information, confidential institutional material and ungoverned sharing of sensitive research data. Case or research discussion must follow the applicable consent, confidentiality, institutional and professional requirements.

STATUS MODEL

Communities should have an honest lifecycle.

01

Proposed

Need, scope and potential conveners identified.

02

Forming

Leadership and initial membership established; programme of work being defined.

03

Active

Recurring activity and current academic outputs are visible.

04

Review

Leadership, relevance, activity and outputs are periodically assessed.

05

Dormant

No current activity; historical record retained without presenting it as active.

06

Archived / merged

Community closes or combines with another group while preserving its prior contributions and outputs.

CONTRIBUTION STANDARD

Recognise useful academic work, not message volume.

Contribution records may recognise verified leadership, teaching, mentorship, review, project coordination, research participation, resource development and other substantive academic work. Likes, posts or activity volume should not become academic ranking.

Communities connect the Foundation’s separate academic systems.

A discussion can become a mentor engagement, research project, programme, conference session or reviewed resource while keeping the source community and contributors traceable.
